Penelope “Penny” McCorkle Waganer of Perryville, Arkansas was born May 22, 1946 in Memphis, Tennessee and died August 2, 2019 in Perryville, Arkansas.

Penny was a graduate of Hall High School and attended Arkansas Tech in Russellville where she met the love of her life, Larry.  Penny & Larry married April 17, 1965 and were just as in love as much today celebrating 54 years of marriage.  They raised two daughters, worked hard, loved life and cherished family and friends.  Many of our memories include weekend trips to the lake growing up with their lifelong friends and continued after having families of our own.  Beach trips were also enjoyed and reminded us how important family and friends are as we spent time together reconnecting each year.  Her grandchildren and great grandson were the light of her life and it showed whenever they were together or chatting on the phone.

Penny was employed by D.A. Sparks, Inc. where she worked with Larry for many years.  Together they opened their home, planned trips, and get togethers for employees and their families as they wanted each and everyone of them to know how much they were appreciated and meant to them.  Her passion for helping others led her to a career of employment counseling where she was employed by Turnage Employment Agency. She not only assisted in finding a job, but building a career that fit the applicant and their lifestyle. Penny enjoyed working outside the home, but always made church and family priority.  PTA’s, women and youth organizations and church counsels were some of the many interests she enjoyed.  Penny made lasting relationships in whatever she did that lasted a lifetime.

Penny had made Perry County Nursing and Rehab Center her home where she quickly became known for her hospitality.  She was one of the first to meet and welcome new residents as they made their home there as well.  Whether she was playing bingo, roaming the halls and visiting, or watching her beloved soap opera’s she was happy.

She is preceded in death by her parents Annelle McCorkle and Don McCorkle.

Penny is survived by her husband, Larry Waganer, of Perryville, daughters Tammy (Jay) Greenfield of Little Rock, Nicole (Wes) Hathcote of Bryant, Brandy Howard, of Benton, Grandchildren, Megan (Russell) Burleson of Austin, Arkansas, Madison Greenfield, of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Trey Greenfield (Alyssa Kellebrew) of Little Rock, and Will Hathcote of Bryant, Great Grandson Levi Burleson of Austin, Arkansas and brother,Dr. Don McCorkle of Alabama.

The family wishes to thank Perry County Nursing and Rehab Center and special friends for all the love and care you extended not only to Penny, but Larry and family as well.  Perryville First Baptist Church and members hold a special place in our hearts.
