The life of William Denny Mitchell began on September 25, 1928 in Bedford, Indiana. A son of Rollen and Stella Mitchell, he was best known to everyone as simply “Bill”. He married the former Delores Rainwater and in time they became longtime residents of the Plummerville community, where he enjoyed membership with the Plumerville Church Of Christ. From early life, Bill was blessed with a love and concern for his country and fellow man. He served a three year tour of duty with the US Air Force and then began a lifelong commitment to the field of law enforcement. After receiving training, Bill became an officer with the Arkansas State Police, Troop J Unit.  Trooper Mitchell served as Post Sergeant and in 1965 was honored to be the very first officer to receive the Arkansas State Trooper of the Year Award. In 1984 after 25 years of dedicated service, he retired from Troop J. Bill continued in law enforcement and worked in several positions including eight years as a transfer officer for Cummins State Prison, four years as the Plummerville Police Chief and as a bailiff for Conway County. He was a member of the Fraternal Order Of Police and the American Legion. In later years, he worked as an over the road mail hauler, tour bus driver and for a short time, drove the bus for the Arkansas Travelers. At the age of 89, Bill passed away on May 4, 2018 at his home in Plumerville. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters. He is survived by: Wife, Delores Mitchell Sons: Billy Mitchell (Sun) of St. Roberts, Missouri and Mark Deaton of Fayetteville Daughters: Mary Ruth Mitchell of Conway, Phyllis Riedmueller of Russellville, Lisa Trafford (Steve) of Morrilton Sisters: Martha Stotts & Phyllis Mitchell both of Indiana Ten grandchildren Thirteen great grandchildren
