Weda Joyce Lucas, a beacon of love and inspiration, passed away on April 2, 2026, at the age of 86. Born in Damascus, Arkansas on November 20, 1939, to Fred and Helen Hensley, Weda was a woman of outstanding character. Her life was marked by an adventurous spirit and loving heart that forever impacted those fortunate enough to know her.
Weda was a devoted homemaker and spent her years crafting a warm and nurturing environment for her family. Her passion for life was evident in her love for gardening, a hobby she cherished with a quiet, thoughtful intensity. Her flower beds bore witness to the same meticulous care she showed for her loved ones. She was also a keen camper and often spent her time fishing with her son, David. As Helen Keller once said, "Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all," and Weda lived her life in the spirit of this quote, embracing the world with an adventurous soul.
Weda was a loving Nanny and Memaw, adored by all her grandchildren. The time she spent with her family was paramount to her. Each day that ended with the company of her grandchildren was a good day in her eyes. Her love for them was a beacon, a light that will continue to shine in their lives. She is survived by her children: David Lucas and Sharlene Mourot both of Springfield, daughter in law Tammy Lucas of Greenbrier, brother; Fred Hensley of Hot Springs; two sisters: Catherine Thelander of Hill Creek, Linda Jenkins of Roseburg, OR; seven grandchildren: Alicia Lucas (Terrell Case), Matt Lucas (Sandra), Adam Lucas (Pat), Hayli Mourot, Corey Lucas (Whitney), Anna Snuggs (Caleb), Laney Moore (Landon) eight great grandchildren; Easton, Flynn, Avery, Maddie, Lynlee, Quincy, Presley and Crue, along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Her parents, Fred and Helen Hensley, husband Bill Lucas, son; Steve Lucas, preceded her in death along with seven brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at 10:30am at the Springfield Cemetery, Hwy 124, Springfield, Arkansas, 72157. Graveside services will follow at 11:00am with Michael Roberson officiating.
In the spirit of Weda's loving and thoughtful nature, we invite those who knew her to leave their cherished memories and upload photographs to the memorial page. These remembrances will serve as a testament to her inspiring life. As we recall the words of Emily Dickinson, "Unable are the loved to die, for love is immortality," we can take comfort in the knowledge that Weda Lucas' love will continue to inspire and guide us.
