Phil Douglas Obituary (1944 - 2024)

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Phil Blakemore Douglas, affectionately known as "Papa P" by those who cherished him most. Born on February 21, 1944, in Memphis, Tennessee, Phil passed away on November 9, 2024, while residing in Conway, Arkansas, a place he had called home for 39 years. Phil was a mechanical engineer by profession, serving the HVAC industry with dedication until his retirement from the US Corps of Engineers. But his true passions lay outside of work. Phil loved eating out with family and friends, and especially taking day trips with his closest friend, Jane. Phil was an avid fan of Razorback athletics, and enjoyed watching the Hogs win or lose. His younger years were filled with adventures that included metal detecting, fishing and bottle hunting. One of his greatest sources of joy remained to be dogs, whether watching funny videos or helping care for Jane’s dogs who he considered his family. Phil was a man of many talents and accomplishments, but his greatest achievement was his family. Phil is survived by his son Stephen Douglas (Mona); daughters Melessa Trevino (Ruben) and Amy Smith (Daniel); and his former wife Jane Douglas, who remained his closest friend. His legacy will be carried on by his grandchildren, Myranda, Luke, Kennedy, Ethan, and Olivia; and great-grandchildren Kaylee and Ryleigh. He was preceded in death by his father, Asa B. Douglas; his mother, Allayne Waldrup Douglas; and his sister, Gale Tate. As Christians, we are comforted by the words of the Lord in John 14:1-3, "Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am." In Phil's memory, we hold on to the hope of reuniting with him in the Father's house.
