Vilonia, Arkansas

Melvin Ray Birdsong, known affectionately as Mel, was born on March 14, 1945, in Merced, California, and settled in Vilonia, Arkansas. His journey of life, filled with courage, inspiration, support, and thoughtfulness, came to a peaceful conclusion on August 26, 2026. He touched many lives with his radiant spirit and left an indelible imprint on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Melvin was a man of great character, a supportive pillar to his beloved wife, Beulah Birdsong, and to his community. His career as a Plastics Technician showcased his meticulous attention to detail and his remarkable ability to create and mold. However, his life was not solely defined by his career but also by his service to his nation. Melvin took immense pride in serving the United States Navy at the Miramar Naval Station in San Diego. His connection with the military didn't end with his service; he remained an active member of the VFW, American Legion, and the Museum of Veterans and Military History in Vilonia. His courage and dedication to his country were truly inspiring.

Melvin was a thoughtful man of faith, a devoted member of the Woodrow Church of Christ. His love for his family was paramount, always willing to lend a helping hand to those around him. His love and devotion were reciprocated by his loved ones and everyone who had the fortune to cross paths with him. He leaves behind his treasured wife, Beulah, children: Kevin Birdsong (Charlotte) of Tillamook, OR, Robert Swain (Michal) of Vilonia, Melanie Birdsong (Doug Schaffer) of Tipp City, OH, Tracy Rowell of Enola; grandchildren: Kyle Birdsong, Keith Birdsong, Dakota Birdsong, Josie Birdsong, Jake Smith and Jamie Swain; great grandchildren: Karson Birdsong, Elliot Birdsong, Adelaide Birdsong, Felicity Birdsong, Kaiya Asman, Freiya Asman and Beau Birdsong special nephew: Gerald Birdsong, Jr. and is preceded in death by his parents, Leonard Birdsong and Alma Wright and brother Gerald Birdsong.

As Helen Keller once said, "What we have once enjoyed we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us." Melvin's legacy will forever be imprinted in the hearts and memories of those he touched. His life will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 1st, 2026, with visitation starting at 9:30 am at Rosewood Cremation & Funeral, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am with Ted Knight officiating.
