We celebrate the life of John Paul Morton, more lovingly known as John, who gained his angel wings and stepped into the arms of Jesus on September 5, 2026. Born on December 16, 1950 in Quitman, AR, John was the epitome of a life well-lived, marked by adventure, generosity, love, and constant support for those around him. He was a dedicated family man who deeply cherished every moment spent with his loved ones, creating a homely symphony of laughter and music with his guitar, an instrument that was a constant companion in his heartwarming family gatherings.
John was a man of many talents, one of them being a gifted construction foreman, estimating jobs for numerous major businesses across the state during his lifetime. His love for work was only equalled by his love for the outdoors, where he found joy in the simplest of pleasures, be it working on his beloved tractor, driving his vibrant red truck, or mowing the lawn, a task he took pride in till he could no longer partake. His adventurous spirit shone through his service in the United States Army, where he served as a Drill Sergeant, earning the respect and admiration of many. As Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, "The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, and to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well." John Morton truly epitomized this, living a life of purpose and making a difference in the lives of those he touched.
John leaves behind his loving wife, Colleen Morton of 55 years, who was his partner in all of life's adventures; two daughters: Somer Sullivan (Shawn) and Ashley Burgess (Justin). He was the patriarch of 8 grandchildren, Sidney Davenport (Nathan), Hunter Kelley (Abby), Tyler Kelley, Logan Kelley, Kaylee Burgess, Caleb Burgess, Kinzey Darr, Megan Burgess and a great granddaughter Stella Kelley, brother: Danny Morton and sister: Hellen Mullins along with many nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
He is predeceased by his parents, James Morton and Hellen Morton. John was a valiant, faithful warrior who bravely navigated life's challenges, leaving an indelible mark on this world. His loving and supportive nature, infectious laughter, and the music of his guitar will continue to resonate in the hearts of those he left behind. We take comfort in knowing that John's spirit is now free, exploring the heavenly realms, as we remember him here, there, and in the air.
The visitation service will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, 10 Sep 2026, at Rosewood Cremation & Funeral, 438 U.S. 64, Conway, Arkansas, 72032, followed by the funeral service at 11:00am.
