John Dale Carr

–

Cleveland, Arkansas

John ‘Dale’ Carr, of Cleveland, passed away on August 8,
2025 after a long illness. He is survived by his wife; Phyllis
Oliver Carr, daughter; Melissa Stratton (Sean, spouse),
sister; Viola Mourot (Dana, spouse), and brother; Darrold
Carr. He is preceded in death by his mother; Anna Mae
Gertrude ‘Gertie’ Carr, father; Jerome Carr, stepson Harley
Smith, and sisters; Pat Carr, Diane Moody, and Brenda
Carr.
Dale never met a stranger and was beloved by his friends
and family alike. Motorcycling was his passion, and he
particularly enjoyed he and his wife’s cross-country
motorcycle trips. One of his favorite trips was to
Monument Valley where he enjoyed the breathtaking
landscapes where some of his favorite westerns were
filmed. During other rides, he rode through the beautiful
areas of White Sands and Alamogordo, the Grand
Canyon, Zion National Park, Arches National Park, Valley
of the Gods, Mokie Dugway, and the Escalante Staircase.
These beautiful memories helped sustain him during his
long illness.
Dale was also an accomplished gardener and looked
forward to tilling and planting his patch of earth every
spring. His tomatoes were legendary, and he had fun
comparing his tomatoes with those of a dear friend who
grows South Jersey tomatoes. Of course, his always won
for both taste and appearance, though heated discussions
sometimes ensued.

Dale could take any engine apart and put it back together
better than it was. His latest project was a GMC Sierra
1991 pickup. He wanted so badly to get it to the
upholsterer and paint shop. He did get to finish the engine,
however.
Dale could also build anything, including his home, which
he called ‘Poverty’s Project’. He added rooms (and
windows and closets) to his home as he could afford to.
Dale will never be forgotten and will be greatly missed by
his wife and family as well as his dear friends. We will miss
his quick wit, easy-going life philosophy, his fondness for
playing cards, watching westerns, and his love and
dedication to his family and friends. There will never be
another quite like Dale.
Dale is on his final ‘ride’ now and those who loved him find
the world a lot emptier.
