Vilonia, Arkansas
John Harold Brussel, a generous soul and courageous spirit, passed away on June 21, 2026, in Conway, Arkansas. Born in Rockford, Illinois on March 16, 1947, to Harold and Dorothy Brussel, John carried with him his Midwestern charm and resilience throughout his incredible journey of 79 years.
John was a supportive brother, a loving father, and a devoted husband to his late wife, Mary. After moving from West Milford, New Jersey to Sherwood, Arkansas, and finally settling in Vilonia, John found his calling in healthcare. His compassionate spirit led him to a fulfilling career as a nurse’s assistant at Conway Human Development Center, where he left an indelible mark on countless lives. Even in retirement, John's altruistic nature resonated, touching all those around him.
John was a man of simple pleasures, and he found joy in the roar of race cars and the tranquility of fishing. As a dedicated member of the Sherwood AR American Legion Post 74, he brought life and laughter to every gathering. An avid gardener, he often compared life to a garden, stating, "Life's like a garden, dig it." His resilience was mirrored in the plants he nurtured, and his love for life was as infectious as his laughter. John had an appreciation for the simpler things, often enjoying a good beer and a cigarette. Above all, what mattered most to him was family. His unwavering support and love for his siblings, Harry Brussel, Frank Brussel, Darlene Dobbis, Mary Ehm, and his daughter, Jennifer Brussel, were his greatest gifts.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Dorothy Brussel, and his beloved wife, Mary. His memory will forever be cherished by his surviving family and everyone whose life was touched by his kindness and strength.
We invite you to share your memories and upload photos of John on his memorial page. His story does not end here, as every memory shared brings warmth, love, and a smile. Let us remember John Brussel, a man who was as generous and supportive as he was resilient and courageous.
