After several months of a difficult struggle with cancer, Edwin Joseph Cure, Jr., of Glendale, Arizona, passed away on June 14th, 2026, in Vilonia, Arkansas, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on January 28th, 1940, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Ed grew up in Blytheville, Arkansas where he graduated from Blytheville High School in 1958. He chose a career of service in the military, graduating from the U.S. Army Helicopter Flight School in 1969, and rose to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer while serving as a helicopter pilot and maintenance officer during multiple tours overseas in Vietnam, Germany, Korea as well as other locations. His military career sparked his love for travel which he continued to pursue throughout his life.
Ed’s interests were eclectic. His intelligence and capabilities in various fields were apparent to his friends and family. He loved the outdoors, especially hiking, fishing, and biking with his friends, as well as bike clubs. Indoors, he was a marvelous cook and always had some new project at hand. He also had an impressive ability to master new technology despite his age.
Ed is preceded in death by his parents, Edwin Joseph Cure, Sr., and Anna May Cure. He is survived by his best friend and partner of twenty-five plus years, Margaret Sinton; his beloved daughters, Anna (Larry) Oberste and Whitney (Jay) Burns; their mother, Jean Ward Cure; his grandchildren, Joseph (Maria) Campbell, Bailey (Rickey) Roberts, Grace Burns, Jerry Burns, and Bethany Burns; his great-grandchildren, Richie, Melanie, Lucy, Lizy and Dallas; his brother, Harding Cure, and sister, Josephine Abrams; and his faithful dog, Ben.
We, the family, would like to thank Nurse Sara and Ms. Denise with Hospice Home Care for their kindness and compassion during this time. We appreciate their patience in answering Ed’s many questions as he navigated his illness.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Because of his great-granddaughter Lucy's battle with childhood cancer, Ed made monthly donations to St. Jude. We can think of no better way to honor him than to continue this gift. Donations may be made at: stjude.org/donate and family notifications can be sent to: edwinjcure@gmail.com.
A memorial service will be held at the Vilonia Veterans Museum at 5:00pm on Saturday, June 20th, in Vilonia, Arkansas. Information regarding a service in Phoenix, Arizona to come.
