Dorothy Mae Haynes Gammage, affectionately known as Dot, was a spirited soul who radiated life’s vibrancy everywhere she went. Born in Anniston, AL, on July 12, 1941, Dot lived 84 full, fearless, and joy‑filled years. Raised in Orange Park, FL, she later lived in several places throughout her life’s journey before ultimately planting deep roots in Central Arkansas, where she became a beloved presence in every community she touched—known for her warmth, her grit, and her unwavering devotion to the people she loved.
Dot lived boldly. She was an avid reader, a fierce sports fan, and an athlete long before it was fashionable for women. She played basketball, cheered in high school, and never stopped finding ways to stay active. Her love for the outdoors was contagious, and she embraced adventure with a grin—SCUBA diving, barrel racing, and exploring the world through her deep love of travel. And when it came to softball, Dot was all in: she played on several different teams, coached with passion, and even umpired for various leagues. Whether she was on the field, behind the plate, or cheering from the sidelines, she brought energy, fairness, and joy to the game.
She was, without question, one of the strongest women her children have ever known. Her life reflected the truth of the verse: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13), a promise she lived out with quiet courage and unwavering faith. Dot worked for many years as an Administrative Assistant and poured her heart into every role she took on. She had that rare combination of a zest for life and a deep understanding of what truly matters—the simple, sacred joy of loving and being loved.
Dot is survived by her daughters Lanette Gammage (Mark) and Robin Sparks, and her grandchildren Dane Vanness (Shelby), Alyx Vanness (Peter), Andrew Pasanen, and Adeline Varela. She was preceded in death by her husband G. Robert Gammage, her parents Jesse and Judah Haynes, and her sisters Mary Ann Countryman, Barbara Padgett, and Cynthia Clark. And in one of life’s sweetest full‑circle blessings, Dot was joyfully looking forward to greeting her first great‑grandchild, a little one she already loved with her whole heart.
In the words of those who knew her best, “Everyone loved Dot.” Her memory will forever be engraved in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her—her laughter, her courage, her stories, and her unmistakable spark.
Please honor Dorothy’s life by sharing your cherished memories and photographs on her memorial page. Celebrate her legacy by remembering the love, laughter, and life she so generously shared with us all.
