It is with great sadness that we bid adieu to the queen of Dr. Pepper and smartphone gaming, Barbara Jean "Mamaw" Sullinger. Barbara, born on July 11, 1958, in the quaint town of Paragould, AR, finally decided to take a break from her relentless daily battle against virtual zombies on Friday, May 31, 2024.
Barbara was a woman of resilience and charisma, always armed with a witty retort and a bottle of Dr. Pepper. She didn't sugar coat things. Anyone who knew her can say that Barbara was the kind of woman who could tell you to go to hell in such a way that you would look forward to the trip. Her empathetic nature was as refreshing as her favorite fizzy drink. Mamaw was a woman of simple pleasures, her love for The Walking Dead And Razorback Basketball was rivaled only by her love for her animals. Anywhere from her "turtle runs" to save every dang turtle she could to putting heaters in her "cat house" during the winter, she made sure the animals were taken care of. She was a woman who knew what she wanted, and what she wanted was a good zombie apocalypse, a bottle of Dr. Pepper, and her animals.
She is survived by her children, Calissa and Nathan (Maggie) Sullinger, the grandchildren she really did love even though she was hard on them, Devon, Kadynce, Landon, Brennan, and Luke, the great-grandson she just absolutely adored, Olliver Rickenbacker, and her unborn great-granddaughter, Esmè whom she wished she was going to get to meet. She also leaves behind her brother, Tommy Johnson, sister, Becky Brown, and many nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Hulen and Dessie Johnson, siblings Melvin, Janice, Ricky, Ann, Linda, and Kenny, as well as nephew Michael Shane Johnson and great-nephew Shawn Haynes.
You will be missed. Now, enjoy your rest. We'll take care of the zombies and turtles for you. Keep calling those hogs from up above. We'll see you again one day. Rest in Love.
We invite all who knew Barbara to leave memories, share stories, and upload photos to the memorial page. Let's remember her as she was: witty, resilient, empathetic, and charismatic. Let's remember her with a bottle of Dr. Pepper in one hand and a cigarette in the other.
